Volv Global and CSL Behring at ERS Congress 2026: Can We Catch ARDS Before It Strikes?
Volv Global is heading to the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Congress 2026, taking place in Barcelona from 5 to 9 September. Vahid Esmaeili, our Data Science and Digital Health Director, will be there presenting a poster on new research into acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
ARDS is a life-threatening lung injury, affecting an estimated 3 million people worldwide each year and accounting for around 10% of intensive care unit admissions. Community-acquired pneumonia is among its most common triggers, and clinicians are often left with a window of only two to six hours to identify patients at risk before the condition can be confirmed.
The question our poster explores: can a machine learning model flag which pneumonia patients are most likely to progress to ARDS, early enough to give clinicians meaningfully more time to act than they have today? The work was developed by Volv Global and tailored to a research question defined with CSL Behring.
Meet Vahid in Barcelona
Vahid will be presenting the poster together with Colleagues from CSL Behring on [date/time], and that’s the place to find us.
“Our methodology is built to recognise disease-specific patterns in real-world data, regardless of the disease,” says Vahid. “ARDS is one proof point; the same approach can apply wherever a disease leaves a distinct signature in the data.”
“ARDS is one of the kinds of problems we built Volv Global to solve: a disease that moves faster than routine care can catch it,” said Christopher Rudolf, CEO and Founder of Volv Global. “We see this as a lighthouse project – a template for how we can partner with any pharma team facing a disease that is just as hard to catch in time.”
Get in touch
If you’ll be in Barcelona and want to talk through the question we’re exploring, or discuss what this kind of approach could mean for your own research, get in touch with our data science team – or come find Vahid at the poster.
We’ll share the full findings once they’ve been presented at the Congress.
