About Volv Global

Our amazing team

Volv Global is a people-focussed healthcare company that helps every person get the right treatment options.

We are committed to making a difference in the lives of people living with diseases which have unmet needs or are difficult-to-diagnose.

Martin Beaussart, Senior Data Scientist

I hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science from EPFL, where I conducted research on federated learning at the Intelligent Global Health Laboratory. Afterward, I worked as a Data Scientist in the Oncology Department at CHUV.

I work at Volv Global because I like to solve challenging problems that have the potential to have a significant positive impact on society.

My superpower is my motivation

Heidi Bezzant, Chief Operating Officer

At Volv Global, I’m the COO — which basically means I focus on getting stuff done while keeping an eye on everything else going on around me. Before Volv, I spent 20+ years running a UK IT business and developed a strong allergy to business jargon.

I’ve been here since the kitchen-table days, through the start-up hustle, and now into proper SME territory. My focus: build a business that works, talks straight, hires smart people, and keeps moving forward — because what we’re building — a win-win healthcare business — is truly extraordinary.

The beach photo on my cover page? It’s a reminder that even when business gets choppy, the calm always comes back.

My superpower: three-word summary.

Catalina Brodbeck-Hincapie, Executive Assistant

I’m a certified translator. I have had the opportunity to live in different countries, fulfilling my passion for languages and cultures.

At Volv Global, I want to make sure that the day to day operations run smoothly.

My superpower is resilience

Rory Burke, Full Stack Developer

I have a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Warwick, specialising in statistical analysis and modelling of dynamical systems. There, I worked on a novel method for measuring and enhancing the predictive power of climate models, which led me to join the World Meteorological Organization as a full-stack developer, where I built several tools to facilitate international data exchange.

I am dedicated to leveraging technology to solve complex, fascinating problems for the betterment of society – precisely the kind of problems that Volv is committed to solving.

My superpower is to be able to explain intricate concepts in a clear and engaging way that anyone can understand.

Marta Calvo Tardón, Client Engagement Manager

I am a biochemist and hold a M.Sc. degree in Neuroscience and a Ph.D. in life sciences, specialised in immuno-oncology. Following my academic journey, I worked as a healthcare consultant, to support pharmaceutical and med-tech companies in their business and innovation needs and challenges.

I am proud to work at Volv because of its people and culture, while we deliver meaningful outcomes that benefit real patients.

My superpower is that I am spoiler-proof – I forget every movie I watch!

David Castellano Falcón, Senior MLOPs Engineer

I did a Master’s in Data Science at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), and have worked as an AI researcher and in the European patent office.

I work at Volv Global because the culture that we have in the company is great and we are always learning something new.

My superpower is driving teams to shared success.

Le Vin Chin, Marketing Director

My background is equally in marketing – from product strategy, to marketing communications, to value-chain marketing – communications, and brand management

I work at Volv Global because it’s at the leading-edge of the use of AI in the development of next generation treatments for patients with difficult-to-diagnose diseases.

My superpower is a dangerously erratic intuition

Vahid Esmaeili, Data Science & Digital Health Director

Vahid holds an M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, with expertise in medical devices and AI-driven healthcare, neuroscience, and green-tech applications. He combines scientific rigor, an analytical mindset, and industry experience to transform complex client needs into impactful AI solutions.

I work at Volv because I am passionate about leveraging technology and digital solutions to create tangible, positive change in healthcare.

My superpower is “interpersonal intelligence” enabling me to build strong relationships with clients, clinicians, and my team, combined with “strategic thinking” to drive innovative AI solutions in healthcare.

Edin Guso, Applied Data Scientist

I hold a B.Sc. with a double major in Mechatronics Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering from Sabancı University, and an M.Sc. in Computer Science from EPFL. After completing my thesis and internship at Logmind during my M.Sc., I joined Volv as an Applied Data Scientist.

I work at Volv because it is empowering to use cutting-edge AI to create real impact in healthcare.

My superpower is making complex things look simple.

Vassia Liakoni, Data Science Associate Director

With an Electrical Engineering background, I obtained a Master’s in Life Sciences and Technology and fascinated by how humans and machines learn and adapt I earned a PhD in Computational Neuroscience. Over the course of my career, I have worked with a variety of complex, high-dimensional datasets, and machine learning techniques, which have shaped my expertise in data science.

At Volv I get to explore and uncover patterns in data using advanced machine learning tools on meaningful real-world problems, in an environment that values humour and respects every voice.

My superpower is noticing things that tend to go unnoticed.

Adel Mezine, Technical Data Scientist - Senior

My education: PhD in Computer Science, specialist in active learning and reinforcement learning. My career experience: software engineering and data science in Transport, IoT and Health industries.

I work at Volv Global because I want to contribute to build AI technology with a meaningful impact on society.

My superpower is learning from my failures.

Christopher Rudolf, Chief Executive Officer & Founder

I am a seasoned technology entrepreneur and business advisor with over 30 years of experience, specialising in data science, AI, and medical informatics. As the founder and CEO of Volv Global SA, I lead the company's mission to transform healthcare through advanced machine learning methodologies, enabling early disease detection and precision medicine. I also share my expertise as a visiting professor at EPFL and UNIL, guiding executive management on harnessing data for strategic decision-making. Residing in Lausanne, Switzerland, I balance my professional pursuits with a passion for music, skiing, hiking, and cooking.

My superpower is to be happy with the blank canvas and to know where to start; to make it up and then make it happen.

Léon van Wouwe, Clinical Innovation Director

I have 20+ years’ global experience in clinical development and operations, uniting data science with pharma and research. I drive cross-functional collaboration to advance innovative treatments.

I work for Volv Global to connect real world health challenges with AI/data science innovations, generating novel insights to enable better personalised healthcare solutions and better outcomes for patients.

My superpower is …

Louis Rudolf, Training & Legal Compliance Officer

I finished my IB Diploma in Switzerland ranked near the top of my class, and I’m now knee-deep in a Law LLB in London—currently specialising in privacy and intellectual property.

At Volv, I’m the quiet force making sure we don’t accidentally violate UK or Swiss law—think legal radar with a dash of foresight. I also coordinate team training, so we all stay clever, not just compliant.

My superpower? Taking tangled, bloated info dumps and transforming them into TL;DRs so sharp they could cut through red tape.

Leni von Whippet Well-being Intern (Grade: Whippet)

Leni joined Volv Global in the summer of 2023 as one half of the Well-being Intern team, alongside his twin brother, Sherwyn. He has brought a delightful touch of unpredictability and light-hearted chaos to the workplace.

Leni is deeply committed to workplace joy and FOMO management. With a sixth sense for fun and a nose for activity, he has a talent for appearing wherever the action is—whether that’s a quiet brainstorming session or a spontaneous game in the hallway. His energy keeps everyone alert, engaged, and frequently in stitches.

Leni is a proud Swiss citizen who shares his home (and many adventures) with Otto and their family. When not at Volv HQ, he enjoys galloping through snowdrifts, taste-testing snowflakes, and engaging in high-speed chases with Otto. Leisure time may also include light cushion restructuring or shoe relocation—though he assures us he's exploring more constructive hobbies.

Leni’s superpower is the element of surprise.

Otto von Whippet Chief Well-being Officer (Grade: Whippet)

At Volv, we take well-being seriously—and Otto plays a starring role in making sure our days are balanced with a little joy and a lot of calm.

With his impeccable behaviour, gentle nature, and excellent social instincts, Otto leads by example. He helps foster a low-stress, high-performing environment simply by being himself.

Otto is now joined by two young recruits: Leni von Whippet and Sherwyn van Whippet. Under Otto’s seasoned supervision, these brothers are learning the ropes (and perhaps chewing a few along the way). They’re still in training, but already contributing to the team’s spirit with their boundless curiosity and charm.

Whether it’s a spontaneous break to play ball or a quiet moment during a busy day, Otto provides the perfect pause. His soothing presence is known to relax even the most frazzled minds—and yes, he does occasionally make a surprise cameo on Teams calls (with rave reviews).

Otto’s superpower is soothing people.

Sherwyn van Whippet Well-being Intern (Grade: Whippet)

Sherwyn joined Volv Global in the summer of 2023 to support our fast-growing team as one of two Well-being Interns, alongside his twin brother Leni. He plays a key role in ensuring that wellness remains woven into the fabric of our workday.

Sherwyn brings a calm and comforting presence to the workplace. Whether it’s prompting a walk to mull over a complex problem, encouraging a game to stretch out the typing muscles, or simply lounging nearby as a soft, furry stress-reliever—Sherwyn is a quiet yet powerful contributor to team well-being. His thoughtful nature and gentle energy offer balance to Leni’s more spontaneous spirit.

Hailing from the scenic Swiss canton of Valais, Sherwyn enjoys the outdoors as much as he enjoys office life. When not on duty, you’ll find him racing through the snow, tackling mountain trails on long hikes with his family, or engaging in spirited romps with Otto and Leni.

Sherwyn’s superpower is being expert in the mindful mooch.

Pascal is qualified with an MSc in Materials Science and Engineering from ETH Zürich. He has worked in or with medical device start-ups for over 10 years and has extensive knowledge in bringing innovative devices to the market in Europe and the US. He has worked at the interface between start-ups and global players for several years on different collaborations and innovation projects in that space and has successfully cleared them.
He is passionate about bringing new treatment options to patients and professionals alike by collaborating with companies and authorities to get the necessary market clearances.

In his free time (?) he likes working on his hobby farm looking after his goats, writing creative posts on LinkedIn, and spending time in the outdoors with his family.

Julie Salgat - Web, SEO & SEA specialist

I design and optimize digital experiences with a sharp eye for both creativity and conversion. From building intuitive websites to managing high-performing ad campaigns and improving organic visibility, I make sure every digital touchpoint has a clear purpose. With a multidisciplinary background, I love bridging strategy and execution, always with measurable results in mind.

What I love about working at Volv Global is the balance they strike between innovation and humanity. The mission is ambitious and deeply meaningful, and even with the complexity and scale of the tech behind it, the team manages to stay grounded, approachable, and genuinely collaborative. That mix of vision and human touch is something I really value.

My superpower is keeping a cool head and a clear vision, even in chaos.

Simon Webb, Digital Marketing Expert

Fine Art Degree and Indie Band in the 90s (nearly 'made it', lol); curated exhibitions and worked in Arts Journalism for Metro Newspaper.  Moved to Bristol in 2003 and started a photography business, a music festival and a family. Currently, I help businesses solve their online lead generation and conversion problems.

Volv is making a real difference in the world, I'm very happy to be helping that mission

My superpower is connecting innovation, people, and processes.

Kim Ribbink, Content Advisor

After graduating with a degree in English, I spent several years as a journalist and found my way into life science copywriting. For more than 20 years, I’ve been writing in the pharmaceutical and healthcare space.

I work for Volv because I get to use my creative and analytical writing skills to weave together stories of innovation and potential.

My superpower is I can find the storyline in everything and help translate complex ideas into understandable prose.

He has a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State and completed post-doctoral training in Robotics at Caltech.

My superpower: my 400m time (in sec) is less than my age (in yrs) – even Otto von Whippet can’t make that claim!
